Hunters Point North & South Tower

Before you begin a construction project, you want to know how your project will impact what is above ground and below. Let GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech provide you with the vibration and geotechnical data you need so you can keep your construction project on track.

For the north tower, GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech conducted pre-construction inspections of adjacent below ground AMTRAK Lines 1 and 2 tunnels to document the condition of the tunnels prior to any work starting on the construction site.  Eight boreholes were drilled on the surface and extended to the tunnel level in which borehole vibration sensors were placed in order to measure construction induced vibration levels at the tunnel elevation.  Weekly formal reports of the vibration data were developed.

To construct the 46-story south residential tower, GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech was retained to conduct inspections of the adjacent structures above ground as well as a section of the Queens Midtown Tunnel (QMT) in order to document the condition of the structures prior to any construction activity. Re:mote seismographs were deployed in the QMT to measure construction induced vibration levels in the tunnel and additional vibration sensors were installed in an AMTRAK ventilation building. Strain gauges were installed on the QMT cast iron liner to measure potential load induced strain levels. The vibration and strain monitoring data automatically uploaded to a project specific website where site personnel could access this information. At the conclusion of the project GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech conducted post-construction inspections of all areas in which pre-construction inspections were completed.
