The energy industry is undergoing rapid changes. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech is your trusted expert providing the solutions you need including analysis for foundations and monitoring side effects for natural resource exploration. Our personnel and instrumentation are always up to the task.
GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech provides independent, impartial vibration monitoring services for the oil & gas industry. We furnish instrumentation and personnel to document vibration levels produced by seismic exploration activities. Our trained personnel make direct, on-site measurements with portable seismographs at the closest structures to source points. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech field representatives coordinate with your project personnel on source points to be monitored and keep them advised of the vibration levels. The calibration of our instrumentation is directly traceable to the U.S. National Bureau of Standards. Vibration data that we collect is critical for assessing claims of damage.
Community meetings are often the best, and sometimes only, opportunity to address neighbor concerns. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech can help you communicate effectively with local residents and public officials. Clear information, presented in a way that property owners can understand, is critical when addressing vibration issues. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech’s professionals have the knowledge and community relations experience to help you answer questions or concerns in an honest, reassuring and accurate way. As a third party, we can offer an independent analysis of vibration at public or private meetings with property owners and regulators. In fact, GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech can provide a learning opportunity to interested parties by demonstrating how vibration is produced, and recorded, during a seismic acquisition project and what protective measures are in place.
Site Attenuation Studies
Attenuation studies are utilized to determine the effects of local geology on the attenuation of seismic energy from blasting or Vibroseis activities. Information from these studies can then be used by your personnel to establish safe offsets and/or drive levels that offer protection to structures (engineered and non-engineered), such as water wells, sewer lines, pipelines, residential and commercial structures, roadways, dams and levees. Site specific attenuation studies can often help improve project offsets compared to the generic offset distances called for in the International Association of Geophysical Contractors guidelines.
Water Well Testing
Property owners and local municipalities often express concerns regarding their most critical resources. Claims of damages regarding the effects of vibration on water wells and pipelines are common. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech can provide quality analysis of water samples that are collected before, and after, your project activities. Sample testing parameters can include, but are not limited to: alkalinity, nitrate, sulfate, iron, suspended solids, pH, hardness and conductivity. All testing is performed at certified water labs. Flow rate and drawdown tests can also be provided.
Damage Claim Investigations/Expert Testimony
Unfortunately, claims of damage are often made against any method of seismic exploration, using any source from sledgehammer to Vibroseis and everything in between. Condition surveys, accurate vibration data, and well-kept field notes are crucial for investigating these claims. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech conducts damage claim investigations by visiting the claimant to document their claim, then taking the alleged damage into consideration along with all other, available evidence and facts that support, or refute, the claim. If you still are unable to avoid legal action, GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech has professionals with decades of trial experience who are able to provide explanations of complicated scientific facts with calm clarity in the courtroom.
